Gideon started out with 22,000 soldiers, The LORD said "this is too many, for the GLORY is mine and will not be known by everyone in Israel if I allow you to go into battle with such a multitude. WOW
What would you do? Gideon listened to God and through him, the FORCE was brought down to 300

Gideon after confronting the Midianites in battle with the LORD's hand protecting him and his men, still has 300 as he pursues the Kings back over the Jordan River. He never lost 1 man, this is only because God was protecting them.
Just like Moses in Egypt and the Red Sea, here is God's hand at work. The Earth is his Footstool
